Kitty is no expert on tattoos, but she does have a few of her own. She enjoys sharing ideas on tattoos inspired by various topics.
What Is an Emo Tattoo?
An emo tattoo is probably cute and quirky, dark and sad, big-eyed, or inspired by rock, punk, goth, or pop culture. Emo is short for emotional.
Emo Star Tattoos
What does every emo girl want on her body? Emo star tattoos! The star is one of the most popular symbols of the emo world, and there are many requests at shops all over the United States for them! Below, I have posted my two favorites.
The first is a very cute and popular emo star tattoo design for girls these days. The stars are different sizes and start at the breast, curving their way up to the neck. You could even get the same design on the other side of the chest to go for that symmetrical look that many emo girls like to get (other examples of this symmetry are matching swallows on each shoulder or matching guns on each hip).
The second is a hip-to-side emo star tattoo with whimsical wispy lines between what appear to be shooting stars. A very feminine flower tattoo adorns the top. You could make the stars bigger or smaller. Add color to the middle of the stars—blue, yellow, or even red! You could use this idea for your emo heart tattoo.
Emo Heart Tattoos
Hearts are not a new design by any means. In fact, they've been popular since the early 20th century. Now that we have emo kids around, there are many emo versions of heart tattoos.
Emo hearts are not all pink, happy, gushy, and romantic: They incorporate the dark side of love, as well. Take the classic traditional-styled heart stabbed with a dagger and a banner with a loved one's name or a bound heart tied to a dead tree. Or how about a bleeding anatomical heart with wings or a broken heart or one with arrows sticking out of it? Classic emo.
Emo Poem and Song Tattoos
Another big design for emo kids is to tattoo a poem or meaningful song somewhere on your body. Song tattoos are a great way to express yourself . . . just remember to pick a song that will be meaningful to you for the rest of your life.
You could have the words of your favorite song accompanied by musical notes. If you don't want words, consider a musical note with treble clefs and sheet music dancing across your back and up to your shoulder. The possibilities are endless!
Other Miscellaneous Emo Tattoos for Girls
There are many other designs that an emo girl can choose. Think of what inspires you or what you have a deep emotional connection to. For me, it's sunflowers, because they remind me of my childhood. What about a flower that reminds you of your childhood or maybe yourself?
Roses mean love, a hibiscus represents the ocean and happiness, and daisies are representative of innocence. A bleeding rose is the quintessential emo flower tattoo. Instead of making your emo flower bleed, you could also make it cry.
Or think about your favorite book as a child . . . Nancy Drew or Dr. Seuss would make a cool and unique design. Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock are also ideas. Make a whole half-sleeve of characters from your childhood . . . make it your own!
